MIDNIGHT (Hollis, 1904) - Double - Maroon - Midseason.

MIDNIGHT SUN (Murawska, 1954) - Jap. - Dark Red - Midseason. Medium height. Seedling of DIGNITY . Guards dark red, staminodes red edged gold, carpels cream tipped. Flowers large, neat and trim. Plant strong grower, stiff stems, good foliage. A beautiful flower of midnight red, centered with a sun of gold. Bulletin 133.

MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM (Pleas, 1906) - Double - White - Late Midseason. Rather tall. Moderately fragrant. Large. Guards and crown delicate blush-white, the latter marked with a few crimson edges; collar pale canary-yellow; floriferous; stems weak. Foliage large Technically double type, but of distinctly crown appearance. An attractive flower when cut, but of little value in the garden because of its sprawling habit. M.

MIDWAY ISLAND (Brand, 1943) - Jap. - White - Late Midseason. A very promising new white Jap. Lists in Bulletins 91 and 130.

MIGNON (Lemoine, 1908) - Double - Pink - Midseason. Medium height. Rich, rose-like fragrance. Large flesh-pink, becoming flesh-white on opening, showing a rose-like center with golden yellow stamens, only fairly floriferous; strong stems. Good foliage. A flower of the utmost elegance in form and color, but has a bad reputation of blooming. M.

MIKADO (Japan, 1893) - Jap. - Red - Midseason. Tall. Raw, disagreeable odor. Medium size. Waved and cupped petals of dark, dull crimson; center broad and flat, composed of thick staminodes strained dark rose-red, edged throughout their length and tipped with pale buff-yellow; carpels pale green, with white kernels at base and stringy, buff-yellow tips. Very floriferous; erect stems. Abundant, close-set foliage. Generally considered one of the best red peonies of its type. M.

MILDRED MAY (Murawska, 1943) Formerly MRS. L. E. MAY. Semi-Double - White - Midseason. Lovely pure white enhanced by a row of yellow stamens. Beautifully branched bouquets of beauty when not disbudded. Bulletins 90 and 92.

MILES STANDISH (Hollis, 1904) - Double - Red - Midseason.

MILLAIS (Kelway) - Single - Maroon - Midseason.

MILTON HILL (Richardson, 1891) - Double - Pink - Late. Medium height. Fresh but faint fragrance. Large. Very light shell-pink of luminous quality with a few red blotches on central petals. Floriferous; strong stems. Foliage excellent. M.

MINE-NO-YUKI (Origin unknown) - Jap. - Deep Red - Midseason.

MINERVA (Sass, 1930) - Double - White - Late. Symmetrical flowers with a hint of pink. Good. Large. Bulletin 43.

MINERVE (Dessert, 1908) - Single - Pink - DISCARDED - M.

MINNEAPOLIS (Dana, 1926) - Single - Pink - Early. Fragrant. A pale single of merit with good stem and habit of growth. Color holds without fading. Bdlletin 28.

MINNEHAHA (Pleas) - Single - Cherry - Midseason.

MINNEKADA (Lins, 1950) - Jap. - Lavender - Midseason. A Japanese type lilac lavender blending to flame rose. To preserve the unique color, the flower must be protected from the sun and cut and enjoyed indoors. Lins 1955 catalog.

MINNIE GERTRUDE (Glasscock, 1931) - Double - Red - Early Midseason - Hybrid. Very slight odor. Cone shaped regular petalage. Form of bud, conical. Stem medium, foliage, narrow light green. Full rose form, beautiful color. Albiflora x officinalis. Bulletin 46.

MINNIE LUCAS (Franklin, 1928) - Double - Pink - Midseason. Tall. Fragrant. Medium pink. Large, loose, rose type. Stiff stems. Bulletin 35.

MINNIE SHAYLOR (Shaylor, 1919) - Semi-Double - Light Pink - Midseason. Several rows of fluffy crepe-like petals of clear, light pink, serrated at tips toward the center; stamens very prominent; anthers golden yellow, with paler filaments; carpels green, pink at base, with striking crimson stigmas. Fades to white. M.

MIN SING TANG (Franklin, 1943) - Jap. - Rose-Pink - Midseason. Deep rose pink with twisted staminodes that resemble a shaggy chrysanthemum. The petals fall and the staminodes remain on the stem with charming effect. List in Bulletin 93.

MINUET (Franklin, 1931) - Double - Light Pink - Late. 40" tall. Very large full rose type, regular form, light pink, stiff stems, strong grower and sure bloomer with foliage to the ground. Bulletin 47.

MIRABEAU (Lemoine, 1904) - Double - Pale pink and mauve. M.

MIREILLE (Crousse, 1894) - Double - White. 1916 Wild catalog: Late, large full imbricated flower; color, paper white, no markings or stamens. This is a good late white. M.

MIRIAM (Chase, 1916) - Double - Pink - Midseason.

MIRIAM MARSH (Freeborn, 1931) - Jap. - White. A thrifty white Jap with large center of pale yellow stamenoids and a delicate pink blush when first opening. It does not possess the substance of ISANI GIDUI but it consistently delicate and about the same size. Bulletin 47.

MIRIAM NAPIER ROHE (Sass-Napier, 1940) - Double - White - Midseason. About 30" high. Medium large, full double, pure white with strong upright stems. Foliage down to the ground. Bulletin 80.

MISCHIEF (Auten, 1925) - Single - Pink - Late. Tall. Apple blossom shades of pink, gracefull in form and carriage, and does not lose its attractiveness as the bloom ages. Shows Japanese parentage in its plant habit. Bulletin 25.

MISS AMERICA (Mann-van Steen, 1936) - Semi-Double - Early - Blush. Average height. Blush, fades to white. Type of Minnie Shay lor and Silvia Saunders but a decided improvement on these. Very large flower of good substance. Some flowers develop center petals in wet season. Strong stems. A peony of the highest quality. Bulletin 64.
