Black Flowers

So-called "black" flowers are in reality dark red or dark reddish-purple. From Hatsugarasu to Sumino-ichi the flowers are very dark red in colour. An'yano-hikari and Konronjishi are very dark purple in colour.


Hatsugarasu (=Ubatama)

Darkest red. Medium size. Stigmas and sheath dark red. Midseason. Long narrow leaflets. Ubatama is the same variety under a different name.


Kokko-tsukasa

Darkest red. Medium size. Stigmas and sheath dark red. Midseason. The autumn buds are pale green while those of Hatsugarasu are reddish brown.


Kokucho

Darkest red. Medium size. Stigmas and sheath dark red. Midseason.


Konronkoku

Darkest red. Small size. Stigmas and sheath dark red. Midseason.

Isono-nami

Darkest red. Medium size. Stigmas and sheath dark red. Midseason.


Koku-unryu

Darkest red, Stigmas and sheath dark red, Midseason.

Sumino-ichi

Darkest red, outer 2-3 petals rimmed creamy-while. Small size. Stigmas and sheath dark red. Late midseason.

Konron-shibori

Dark red. Outer 2 3 petals rimmed creamy-white. Small size. Stigmas and sheath dark red Late midseason.

Kokamon

Outer 2-5 petals rimmed creamy-white Medium size. Stigmas and sheath white. Midseason.

Ryokimon

Outer 2-3 petals rimmed creamy-white. Medium iize. Stigmas and sheath reddish purple. Midseason. Sparse foliage.


Showano-hokori

Outer 2-3 petals striped and fringed with white. Medium size. Stigmas and sheath reddish purple. Midseason.

Muregarasu

Small size. Midseason. Muregarasu is classified as a remontant in some books. We classify it here because none of us has seen a winter bloom on this plant.
