SHIRLEY TEMPLE - Double - Blush - Early. This beautiful variety is the result of a crossing between FESTIVA MAXIMA and MME. EDOUARD DORIAT, 20 yrs. ago. This variety flowers a week before the well known early flowering variety, Fextiva Maxima. The color is a beautiful light rose which changes into white, exceptionally large in size, 8" in diameter. An outstanding variety as a cut flower for its firm stems and early flowering period. Smirnow ad. Bulletin 129.

SHIRLEY WALKER (Shaylor, 1918) - Single - Pink - Midseason.

SHIRO SANGAI - Jap. - White. Bulletin 91, page 40.

SHOGUN or SHOYUN (Origin unknown) - Single - Carmine-Red - Midseason.

SHO-YO (Harding, 1935) - Semi-Double - Flesh Pink - Late Midseason. Medium height. Fragrant. Herbaceous. Flesh pink, becoming a little more creamy in the center. Petals - large guard petals gradually becoming smaller toward center, where deep gold anthers show freely and light up flower. Entire plant - medium height. Clean strong foliage. Flower large, flat, brilliant. Bulletin 61.

SHY MAID (Auten, 1930) - Jap. - Pink. Light pink. -When cut in the bud opens out a very delicate peach pink with pale yellow center. Distinct. Fades white outdoors. Plant habit very erect. Bulletin 43. List in Bulletin 61.

SIBELIUS (Rosefield, 1939) - Double - Light Pink. Large and broad blooms of unusual refinement and appeal. Free bloomer and the clean buds open well. Foliage well distributed, clean, healthy and vigorous. Bulletin 76.

SIDONIE (Miellez, 1856) - Double - Lilac, shaded salmon - Midseason.

SIGNAL STATION (Auten, 1938) - Jap. - Red - Very Late. Late red Jap, carried on slender stiff stems 14" above the foliage. Brilliant medium red with center flushed white. Bulletin 72. List in Bulletin 91.

SIGNORINETTA (Kelway, 1910) - Double - Pink - Midseason.

SILBERSCHMELZE (Goos & Koenemann) - Prior to 1937. Double. Bulletin 68, page 20.

SILOAM (Auten, 1933) - Double - White - Late. Dwarf. Flat incurved. Stems only fair. Refined bloom, exquisite finish. Bulletin 54. List in Bulletin 61.

SILVER CERISE (Porter, 1927) - Single - Rose or Pink - Midseason. Medium tall. Not fragrant. Cerise with silver tipped edges. Strong stems. Extra large blossom. Not affected by the sun. It holds up well after opening. Strong grower. Bulletin 45.

SILVER CHALICE (Kelsey, 1935) - Double - White. Faint fragrance. A very delicate blush white or delicate pink. Gold stamens, shows carmine on some edges. High built crown, cup-shaped like a silver cup with red wine in it. Very beautiful. List in Bulletin 109.

SILVER CUP (Kelway) - Single - White. Pure white. Midseason.

SILVER DAWN (Saunders, 1949) - Single - White, flushed rose - Hybrid. Willmottiae x macrophylla. List in Bulletin 129.

SILVER KING (Auten, 1933) - Double - White - Late. Often hard to open. Bulletin 54. List in Bulletin 91.

SILVER PLUME (Andrews, 1932) - Jap. - Light Pink. 1952 Wild catalog: Very light silvery pink guards with yellow staminodes and often pink feather in center. It makes a distinct flower and is one of the best light pink Japs. List in Bulletin 91.

SILVER SWAN (Rosenfield, 1934)-Double - White - Very Late. Tall. Fragrant. A symmetrical full double, pure white, very large flower on tall stems. Excellent bloomer. Bulletin 56.

SILVER SWAN (Saunders, 1942) - Single - Pink to White - Hybrid. Palest pink, slightly fluted and fringed. Delicate and lovely. Albiflora x decora alba. Lists in Bulletins 91 & 129.

SILVER WEDDING (Lyman, 1939) - Single - White. White when fully open, pink buds. Heavy squared yellow stamens. Strong and good form. Very lovely. Bulletin 81.

SILVIA (Saunders, 1921) See SILVIA SAUNDERS. Midseason.

SILVIA SAUNDERS (Saunders, 1921) - Semi-Double - Pink - Extra Early. Dwarf. Odor not very good. A beautiful little flower remindful of a semi-double wild prairie rose. Cup shaped, bright clear rose-pink, fading lighter toward the center, which is filled with yellow stamens among which the very brigh pink stigmas make a conspicuous pattern. Good grower. Very abundant bloomer. M.

SINBAD (Auten, 1941) - Semi-Double - Red. Tall. High built red edged silver. List in Bulletin 91.

SINGLE BLISS (Blackclock)- Single - Pink - Early. Rosy pink fading lighter. Stamens on long filaments. Large flowered and pretty. List in Bulletin 93.

SIR JOHN FRANKLIN (Franklin, 1939) - Double - Red - Late. About 12" above good foliage. Faint and spicy odor. Red, the color of Philippe Rivoire, but a heavier, fuller flower, rose type, no stamens. Bulletin 76.
